About Boat Daze

What are the benefits of renting my boat through Boat Daze?

Our platform connects boat lovers to boat owners. We will expose your boat to thousands of interested renters so you can just turn you boat into a money maker whenever you want.

How many boats can I list?

You can list an unlimited number of boats.

Is there a membership fee?

No, at this time Boat Daze does not charge any membership fees.

How much does it cost to list a boat?

Nothing. You can list as many boats as you want, and it’s totally free.

What are the fees that are charged by Boat Daze?

We only charge 13% per booking to the owner of the boat. Other penalties and charges may apply for cancellations, no-shows, etc., but mainly that is the only fee charged.

Do I need a captain? If so, who will captain my boat?

If you do not have a captain and do not want to captain your own boat, then reach out to us and we will try to accommodate your needs. Otherwise, you may rent your boat without a captain, meaning the person who rents your boat will be responsible for operating it. 

I want to list my boat without captain. How do I know if the renter can handle my boat?

You should ask for a power squadron license and/or test drive the boat with them to see if they can manage operation of the boat safely.

Insurance and Liability

Does Boat Daze provide additional insurance to ensure my boat is protected?

At the present moment, no. Owners need to ensure that they have proper insurance for their boats.

What Insurance do I need to rent my boat?

Depending on where you are located, you may have minimum insurance requirements. It is recommended that you get general liability insurance for no less than $1,000,000, and property insurance for the minimum value of your boat.

How do I make a claim if something is damaged during a trip booked through Boat Daze?

You should do a walk-through of your boat at the end of the booking. If something is damaged by the renter, we can help you get in touch with that person, as necessary.

Getting Started: Permits & Other Requirements

What do I need to register my boat?

The process is very easy. Simply click here to begin your registration. You will need to fill out some basic information on your boat, including its location and a basic description. Be sure to include photos of your boat, to make your listing as attractive as possible for renters. 

Do I need permits to list my boat?

Please check with local government authorities to make sure your boat can be operated by others legally in your area. In Puerto Rico, we are working on obtaining authorization from the government to grant permission to boat owners who only rent their boats sporadically.

Which documents do I need to supply to list my boat on Boat Daze?

None. We only require pictures of your boat so that boat enthusiasts can better decide if your boat is right for them.

What are the minimum requirements to get my boat Approved on Boat Daze?

You should provide a full description of the boat, its location, its price, and pictures. You also need a PayPal account. Of course, your boat should be in good working order.

Your Renters

What guarantees does Boat Daze provide about the renter?

We cannot provide any guarantees about the renter. However, we do guarantee that you will receive payment after a successful booking, as the renter is required to deliver payment in escrow prior to the day of the booking.

At what time do I meet the renter the day of the booking? Where do I meet them?

You must coordinate these details with the renter after the booking is confirmed. The most convenient place to meet is usually at the marina or port where the boat is located.

What are the maximum and minimum limits regarding booking duration?

The booking can be as few or as many days as you’d like. Your boat, your rules.

How do I set my price?

You are totally free to set any price you want. If you would like help in choosing a price, contact us.

Why can’t I email or call the renter directly?

There are many reasons why we require all initial communications to be maintained through Boat Daze. However, the biggest reason is that we want to ensure the safety of all of our users, and that includes maintaining a proper level of privacy before any finalized transactions are made.

How do I contact the renter?

There are three ways to contact the renter.

  1. You can reply to any email you have received from “reply@boatdaze.com” on behalf of the renter.
  2. You can access your “Inbox” on boatdaze.com and find any messages initiated by the renter such as inquiries or booking requests.
  3. You can select to “Reply” any of those messages to continue a conversation. Renter personal contact information will be provided to you once they pay for your booking.

The renter wants me to lower the price. Can I do that?

Yes. When you generate an invoice, you can provide discounts or add costs related to the duration of the trip, the length of the trip or any additional goodies that are requested from you.

The renter has made a request that brings the price up. Can I increase the booking price just for his/her booking?

Yes. When you generate the invoice, you will be able to include any additional charges which correspond to the user’s requests. 

Payments

How do I get paid, and how much will it be?

You will get paid through an electronic funds transfer via PayPal, to the PayPal account that you will assign to your boat. We charge 13% of the total amount of the booking’s invoice, the rest is yours. 

How does Boat Daze guarantee that I will receive payment?

Our payment system is automated. You will receive payment once the booking is completed. This is issued the next day after a booking has ended. We allow the renter those extra hours to still submit a cancellation request in case anything went wrong.

What price(s) should I set for my boat? Can it vary based on date or season?

You are free to choose any price for your boat. We do recommend considering that very expensive rentals may be less attractive to most users. You can configure your price to vary based on the date or season.

Does Boat Daze save any of my credit card or account information?

We do not save any financial or payment information. However, our payment processors might store this information securely if you provide them with authorization to remember your card information for your next booking, on your preferred computer or mobile device.

Your PayPal account email or phone number will be stored in order to submit your payout. Because this cannot be used to obtain payment from you, but rather to provide you with payment, and it is not directly linked to bank or card information, your financial information remains secure.

Listing Management

How do I get started with my first listing?

Click here to begin your registration. There are links to this page on the front page and on your user menu, if you are logged in.

If you have never registered you will be required to register once you finish filling up the basic information of your listing.

How do I make my boat show up on Boat Daze’s front page?

Currently we manage that list at our discretion. Shoot us an email if you are interested and we will evaluate your boat to see if it can be in our promotional rotation.

My pictures are not showing correctly, or are not formatted well. What do I do?

We try to accommodate most image resolutions and aspect ratios, but after some point it just doesn’t fit well enough and they must be trimmed to fit the spot where the images show up. For optimal results, please use images with wide 9:16 aspect ratio.

How do I share my boat on social media? What is my boat’s link or URL?

When we publish your boat you will receive an email with your listing’s link. Alternatively, you can visit the “My Boats” page and copy the link to your boat under your boat’s image. You can copy these links and share them anywhere.

Another option is to do the following. When viewing your own listing’s page, in the “Book Now” box, you will see buttons to share it directly on social media. Click those buttons and your boat will be shared. 

Why isn't my Vimeo or YouTube video not working?

Make sure you are not trying to put the entire URL. You only need to put in the VIDEO ID, for example, if your video is at the url: youtube.com/XYZ, just put the XYZ part. Vimeo videos sometimes have a format like the following: vimeo.com/abc/xyz. 

Make your video public if you are still having problems. If these suggestions do not work, send us the link to your video and we’ll take a look to help you out.

Can I disable or “Pause” my listing? Can I re-enable it later?

Yes. Go to “My Boats” and press the “Pause” button on your boat. To re-enable it, go to the same page and press the “Publish” button on your boat. 

Booking Management

How does Boat Daze inform me about bookings or messages?

Email. We use the email you gave us when you registered your account. Please be sure our emails don’t land in your spam folder. 

How does my boat get booked?

An interested renter will send you a booking request with the desired date(s) and amount of people.

How do I respond to a booking request?

If you have questions or information for the renter you may reply to the booking request email, or you could log into your account’s inbox on Boat Daze and hit “Reply” to the booking request.

Once you are ready to approve the request, go to your “Bookings Received”, find the booking and press “Send Invoice”. Tweak the final price if you will, and hit “Send”.

How much time do I have to respond to a booking request?

If you don’t respond within 48 hours, you will get daily reminders to do so until you respond.

The booking must be paid for and confirmed before noon on the day before the booking period starts.

What if I don’t respond to a booking request?

The booking will expire around noon the day before the booking period starts.

What if I have questions for the renter who sent me a booking request?

Respond to the booking request email or to the inbox message in your account.

What If I want to change the invoice after I sent it?

Paid invoices cannot be modified. You will have to cancel the request and start over.If the invoice hasn’t been paid, quickly cancel your invoice right from “My Bookings” and submit a new one.

What are the different booking statuses?

  1. Pending – Request Created
  2. Waiting – Invoice Issued
  3. Confirmed – Invoice Paid
  4. Cancelled – Cancelled
  5. Refunded – Once a refund has been issued.
  6. Hold – On review due to cancellation or other types of user requests.

When is a booking confirmed? What happens next?

When the Renter pays for the trip, the booking is confirmed. At that point, the following happens:

  1. We will notify you that we have received your payment for the trip in full and we will share with you the personal contact information about the renter.
  2. You are expected to show up at the boat’s location at the agreed meeting time, receive the renter and off you go on a beautiful adventure.
  3. You may contact the renter directly to finalize any details related to the trip such as exact meeting time and location, instructions on what to bring, boat rules, etc.
  4. You cannot change the price.

Can I add more costs to a confirmed booking?

No.

How do I cancel a reservation?

Any booking that has not been confirmed may be cancelled at any moment by either the renter or the owner, no questions asked.

Can I cancel a confirmed booking?

If the booking date is beyond 7 or more days, you are able to cancel it within the first 24 hours of confirmation, no questions asked, and an automatic refund will be sent.

If the booking is within less than 7 days OR more than 24 hours have passed since payment, you will only have the option to request cancellation.

A cancellation request arrives at Boat Daze as a message for manual evaluation. If the cancellation violates our terms of use a penalty may be applied towards future bookings you receive. The renter will receive his refund.

The renter or myself want to change the dates of a reservation. Is that possible?

If the booking has not yet been confirmed, just cancel it and and request a new one.

For confirmed bookings, shoot us an email to support@boatdaze.com and we will change them for you.

How can I reserve dates for myself?

Go to “My Boats”, select your boat, and then go to “Calendar”. Select the dates where you want your boat to NOT be available.

You may link an icalendar feed from your public outlook or google calendar (among others) to have Boat Daze automatically show unavailable dates based on events on your personal calendar.

Your boat will be assigned a public icalendar link on Boat Daze too and the link to that calendar appears on that same page.

You may import your boat’s public icalendar link to your personal outlook or google calendar. Your calendar will show booked dates on Boat Daze.
